Imaginarium features the work of Kate Renee and Brett Early. The show begins November 3rd, but the week before we have all been very busy finishing up works, bringing them to the space and installing the show. After dropping off my large inventory of pieces on Sunday, I headed back into the gallery on Monday to help curate the show.
I arrived at Gamut Monday afternoon. We began by bringing all of Brett and my artwork into the space. Since I make a lot of works that are diptychs and small groupings, we had to start with organizing my works.
Due to the large size and the bold colorization, we decided to utilize the height of the walls and fit as much as we could in the space. We had to layout the pieces on the floor to visualize the spacing and grouping of the pieces.
When I saw Brett Early’s work I was pleasantly surprised on how many similarities and themes we both touch on in our works. Here is a sneak peak of his large works which will be at Imaginarium. While I am not featuring my Yeti and Bigfoot pieces in this show (they are currently at Couples and Components on the U of M St Paul Campus), Brett has a Yeti-like blue monster. So cool! He also appears to love to paint clouds as much as I do. I have 7 works with clouds as a subject in this show. We also have works with a lightning motif!
I also have a nice robot piece that mirrors Brett’s purple robot works. Come to the show to see Brett’s awesome light up robot piece!
In the words of Gamut Gallery, “These prolific, well-trained fine-artists each remain true to the wonderment and jovial perspective drawn from childhood. They share this inclusive point of view, as well as bold use of color and line, trading texture and detail for contemporary design and eye-grabbing imagery.”
Come to the opening on November 3rd 2012 at 7-10 PM. Or come to the closing on November 24th at 7 -10 PM.
